Exercise and stretching therapy in Folkestone and Ashford
Stretching exercises and fitness help to recover from injuries, this is why they have usually been included as part of a training and rehabilitation program.
Stretching will help increase the stability and range of motion across the joints. Improved flexibility may improve your physical activity performance; reduce your risk of injury; help your joints move through their full range of motion; enable your muscles to function more efficiently.
There are different type of stretching, static stretch (that can be linked to passive stretching), dynamic stretch (that has a few correlations with ballistic stretch) and the Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation stretching (PNF), that is one of the most popular kinds of Pre-contraction stretching.
A few words should be spent to define those different categories:
STATIC and PASSIVE
Static stretching is usually done at the end of physical activity. A position has to be held for a certain period of time, which helps to loosen up the muscles, increasing flexibility and benefitting the range of motion. Passive stretching is similar to the static stretching but, in this case, the person relies on the external force of another person or accessories.
DYNAMIC and BALLISTIC
Dynamic stretching is usually used to warm up the body before performing a sports activity. The main characteristic of this kind of stretching is that the body has to make functional movements and sometimes those mimic the activities the body is about to perform. Those body actions are controlled – the aim is to gently reach the limit of the range of motion. In the ballistic stretching instead, the part of the body involved is pushed beyond the range of motion limit.
Physical exercise also plays a key role in preventing damage to our body and helps to strengthen up its structure.
Physical exercise increases the stability of the joints and helps to support the bones. Moreover, strong muscles help to maintain a certain posture – while sitting in front of your computer for several hours, for example. A strong musculature, therefore, allows you to reduce the fatigue of maintaining a specific position.
